Ingredients
1/2 cup cold unsalted butter, plus 1 tablespoon
2 cups unbleached all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 to 1 cup whole milk
- Optional Biscuit Toppings:
1/4 cup melted unsalted butter
1/2 teaspoon sugar
1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 450°F. Grease a cast-iron skillet or round cake pan with 1 tablespoon of unsalted butter.
- In a large mixing bowl, sift together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Using a food processor, pulse in the cold butter until well combined. Alternatively, cut in 1⁄2 cup cold butter using a pastry cutter or two knives.
- Gently mix in the milk until a soft dough forms.
- Drop spoonfuls of dough into the greased pan, placing them close together. Optionally, drizzle the melted butter over the top and combine the sugar and cinnamon to sprinkle over the butter.
- Bake for approximately 12 minutes until the biscuits’ tops are lightly browned. Serve warm with butter and jam.
Notes

- For reheating, wrap biscuits in foil and warm in a 300°F oven or toaster oven for 5 minutes.
