Amazon Secures Exclusive NFL Playoff Game for Prime Video
,

Amazon is set to break new ground in sports streaming by exclusively streaming an NFL playoff game on its Prime Video platform next season. This move comes after the success of NBCUniversal’s Peacock, which attracted 23 million viewers with its exclusive playoff game last season.

Amazon will stream its first-ever NFL playoff game exclusively on Prime Video next season, marking a significant milestone for the streaming service’s sports offerings.
This decision reflects Amazon’s growing investment in sports content and its ambition to compete with traditional broadcasters and other streaming platforms.

Last season, NBCUniversal’s Peacock streaming service secured an exclusive NFL playoff game, which attracted 23 million viewers and accounted for 30% of web traffic.
The success of Peacock’s exclusive game highlights the increasing popularity of sports streaming and the potential for streaming platforms to capture large audiences.

Amazon had the opportunity to stream a playoff game this season but opted not to pursue it. Instead, NBCU secured the rights to the game in a deal valued at least $110 million.
However, Amazon had a clause in its deal to stream “Thursday Night Football” that allowed it to claim the streaming-only playoff game for next season.

NBCU, a unit of Comcast, sought to retain the exclusive streaming rights for the playoff game next season. However, Amazon’s contractual clause enabled it to secure the game for Prime Video.

Amazon’s acquisition of exclusive streaming rights for an NFL playoff game represents a significant development in the streaming industry’s ongoing competition for sports content. As Prime Video continues to expand its sports offerings, viewers can expect more innovative and exclusive content on the platform.
