Trouble is never far from the Mushroom Kingdom! While Mario and Luigi are off on a sky-high coin hunt, Princess Peach is suddenly kidnapped by the treacherous Koopalings. To save her, the brothers must journey through more than 80 stages, collecting an endless stream of coins across fields, seas, skies, icy landscapes, and snowy mountains.
At Bowser’s Castle, they discover Peach imprisoned in a cage with Bowser standing guard. One brother must hit the ! Switch behind Bowser, collapsing the bridge beneath him and sending the Koopa King plummeting into the abyss. But before they can celebrate, Peach’s cage is whisked away off-screen. Chasing after it, Mario and Luigi cross bone-made platforms and confront the Koopalings riding in their Koopa Clown Car. They empower Bowser, transforming him into a massive, towering form. At the summit of the tower, the heroes strike a giant switch, causing the colossal Bowser to crash through the floor. With his defeat, Peach is finally freed. Mario carries her home, while Luigi follows behind, still gathering coins along the way.
During the credits, the Koopalings struggle to carry a shrunken Bowser in their Koopa Clown Car. Overloaded by his weight, the vehicle malfunctions and crash-lands, scattering everyone across the ground and bringing the story to a chaotic close.
